Having a support network is a real benefit being a foster carer, it can come from family, friends, or other carers. This entry in a fostering network competition I thought was beautiful and summed up what it is like to have someone who understands and cares. Thanks Kerryann!
We met on a day not meant to matter, A development day — coffee, chatter. You said hello, I cracked a grin, We swapped our numbers – let life begin
From that moment, it was clear to see, You weren’t a stranger – you were part of me. Like stars aligned or fate’s own plan, We weren’t just friends – more like a clan.
With crazy-coloured hair, wild and bright, We wear our chaos like armour and light In every shade, our stories unfold, In purple, in blue, in pinks brave and bold.
You love my children like they’re your own, With every hug, that truth is shown. And mine adore you, as do I – No need to ask, no need to try.
You get it — the mess, the cries in the night, The aftermath of contact, the trauma, the fight. You understand like only a carer can, With patience, grace – a heart that ran Toward love when others ran away, You stay, and stay, and stay
There’s no judgment, no mask, no need to pretend, Just pure love, laughter – my sister, my friend. Through panic and paperwork, storms and despair, I never walk alone – you’re always there.
In late-night texts and silent hugs, In coffee cups and shared eye-roll shrugs. In explaining the world to a child in pain, In holding their tears like soft, warm rain.
We’ve seen each other say I do, In white and flowers and skies so blue. But deep down, we always knew – Our soulmate, was already in the room. Because love like this, it doesn’t fade, It’s soul-deep, fierce, and beautifully made.
You are the calm, the roar, the grace, The safe space in a frenzied place. This bond we share — it’s rare, it’s true, It’s the power of relationships — me and you. Kerryann Nadine Howatson
